Would you like to know something about Katjes?

Where does the name "Katjes" actually come from?

Katjes is the Dutch word for "little cat". Our first product also was a little liquorice cat. Everyone liked it so much, that the whole family was named after it: The Katjes Fassin GmbH + Co. KG.

How long have you been around already?

In 1950, Klaus Fassin founded the Katjes-family and named it Katjes Fassin GmbH + Co. KG. But our story actually goes back even further - to 1910, to be precise - with a recipe for the manufacture of liquorice from Sicily! That is how the production of our little liquorice cats "Katjes" began. In the seventies we commenced with the initial production of the first fruit gums.

What is the most popular Katjes product?

For many years now, our most popular product has been the Yoghurt-Gums. And we also do quite a bit to ensure that you like eating them: we use valuable apple pectin as a gelling agent and exclusively natural colourants. Apart from this, the gums have a high share of skimmed milk yoghurt powder and have a delicious taste of strawberries, cherries, blueberries, pears, raspberries and lemons.

Why do Katjes taste so yummy?

High-quality products are of great importance to us. That is why we only use high-quality- and natural ingredients. Artificial colourants? For us, these are absolutely taboo! Instead, we only use fruit juices, fruit pulp and colouring extracts of fruits and plants for our fruit gums. By doing so, we also completely refrain from artificial aromas. For our liquorice products we only use high-quality liquorice juices from selected areas of cultivation.

Why can't I find a particular product in my supermarket anymore?

Sometimes it happens that there is less demand for one of our products. Naturally, we would not like to have any products in our range that you do not like so much. Hence, we sometimes remove some from our assortment. In turn, though, we continuously add new ones! Simply take a look at our product overview, where you will find all the fruit gums and liquorices that we currently have in our assortment.

Do you have products without gelatine?

We have numerous products in our assortment that are manufactured without gelatine. However, the recipes of our products are continuously developed further, which could result in slight changes. This is why we recommend that you always check the ingredients listed on our packaging.

Without Gelatine:

Are there products without lactose?

Here we have summarised our products without lactose for you. Nevertheless, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that the tiniest traces of lactose might not be contained in these products, since we also manufacture products with milk ingredients. Furthermore, we continuously develop our products further, which could result in slight changes in the recipe. Thus, please also always pay attention to the ingredient lists on our packaging.

Which products are without apple juice/ -pulp?

Several of our products are manufactured without any apple ingredients. Nevertheless, it could sometimes occur that the smallest traces of apple juice or –pulp enter the products, since we also manufacture products containing apple ingredients. Since our recipes are continuously developed further, this can result in slight changes. Thus, please also always check the ingredients listed on our packaging.

Which of your products are without gluten?

All products listed below are "gluten free" in the meaning of the Commission Regulation (EC) No 41/2009 of 20 January 2009 concerning the composition and labelling of foodstuffs suitable for people intolerant to gluten and the German Society for Celiac Diseases. This means, that the gluten content of these products is less than 20 mg/kg.

As we are continuously improving our recipes, changes in the ingredients of our products are possible. Furthermore there could be some differences between your national food law and the European. So please always check the ingredients list on our packaging.
