What does the liquorice root have to do with liquorice?
Regardless of whether Katzen Pfötchen or Salzige Heringe, one specific raw material is required for all of our liquorice varieties – the juice of the liquorice root. It is cultivated mainly in the dry regions surrounding the Mediterranean, as well as in West Asia.

Why does the liquorice root actually have this name?
The root of the liquorice plant got its name because it is much sweeter than normal sugar!
But how does the liquorice root become liquorice?
The liquorice root is grated, boiled down and subsequently pressed. Prior to giving this black juice its typical forms, numerous additional ingredients are still to be added. Thus, the largest number of different products is created, e.g., our Katjes-Kinder, that is loved by so many.
