Berlin, 8 November 2019 – Now in its 62nd year, the Golden Sugar Loaf award was introduced in 1958 by the German food industry. Sponsored by the Lebensmittel Zeitung food magazine (published by dfv Mediengruppe), it is presented annually to companies and individuals for special merit to the German or European consumer goods industry. Over the years, winners of the award have always been companies that set new standards in the industry. This year, Katjes was one of three companies to receive the coveted award, which was presented to the sweets manufacturer in recognition of boldly entering unchartered territory and creating new food trends while also taking a clear socio-political stance.

An independent jury consisting of top managers from retail and industry is responsible for choosing the winners of the Golden Sugar Loaf. Katjes Fassin was awarded the prize, the jury explained, for its exceptional economic development, for investing in its German production sites, and for the enduringly successful teamwork demonstrated by the two managing partners Bastian Fassin and Tobias Bachmüller. The jury also made explicit mention of the sweets manufacturer’s prowess in the field of innovation, and of their bold advertising campaigns. Here, they were particularly impressed by campaigns such as the ‘Yes! All veggie’ campaign, by the veggie café in Berlin, and by the company’s food-safe 3D printer for fruit gums – the first of its kind on the global market.
